PUB Working Group 6-6 (WG6-6): Development of coupled models of hydrological cycle and water quality in urbanised river basins
Objectives:
- development of a coupled model of hydrological cycle and substance transfer in the catchment for predicting both water quantity and quality
- developing a procedure for water eco-environmental assessment
- developing guidelines for river ecosystem protection
This working group addresses the key issue of predicting both water quantity and quality in urbanised river basins. It attempts to incorporate a distributed hydrological model with substance-transfer processes, including point-source and non-point-source contaminants. Differing from the traditional method of water resources assessment which emphasise water quality only, this research will explore the coupled indicators of quantity and quality for evaluating water resources. The Group will suggest a baseline for river ecosystem protection in order to support sustainable development.
